36 assistance desks up to watch Iloilo motorists

Iloilo City (1 November) -- A total of 36 Assistance Desks were put up by the DPWH 6 in various cemeteries and highways of the region to help motorists, especially those who will visit their departed loved ones.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 Director Rolando Asis said they are committed to ensure safe and smooth journeys for all motorists in the region during the celebration of All Saints' Day, tomorrow and All Souls' Days, this Sunday.

"Our Assistance Desks which are part of our "Lakbay Alalay" program were already operational starting yesterday, October 31 until November 3," said Asis.

In the province of Iloilo, the DPWH Assistance Centers are located at the following areas: Oton Cemetery; Junction Btac. Nuevo/Pototan in Tabucan, Btac. Nuevo; Junction Mina/Btac. Nuevo in Poblacion Pototan; Cabatuan Cemetery in Tabucan, Cabatuan; DPWH DEO in Btac. Viejo; Btac. Viejo Cemetery; and DPWH DEO in Sta. Barbara.

Four Assistance Desks were put up in the province Capiz. These are found in Brgy.Bailan, Pontevedra, Brgy. Tanza Roxas City, Dumalag Cemetery in Dumalag and Sigma Cemetery in Sigma.

In Aklan the DPWH Assistance Desk is situated at Milagrosa Cemetery in Osmena Avenue in Kalibo while in Antique at San Jose Cemetery, San Jose and in Guimaras at the DPWH Office and Jordan Cemetery.

For Negros Occidental, these are found in E.B. Magalona Proper, D.S. Benedicto Proper, San Carlos City Proper, Himamaylan Station, Binalbagan Station, Hinigaran Station, Isabela Station, La Castellana Station, Moises Padilla Station, Kabankalan Cemetery, Cauayan Cemetery, Sipalay Jct. to Cemetery, Hinobaan Cemetery, Bago City Cemetery and La Carlota City Cemetery.

The DPWH Assistance Centers in Bacolod City are located in Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Bacolod Public Cemetery and Sum-ag Public Cemetery while in Iloilo City at Tagbak Terminal, Ungka Terminal and Mohon Terminal.

Asis said the Help Desks are manned by the DPWH engineering personnel who were also tasked to submit situational reports to the regional office for strict monitoring of the traffic situations during the occasions. (PIA)
