Catbalogan City (27 May) -- As Catbalogan City is busy preparing for its ever first Charter Day, it will also celebrate in simple rites commemoration of the National Flag Day as directed by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In a phone interview with newly appointed Sangguniang Panlungsod Art Gabon, he said that the city has purchased flags and flaglets to signal the beginning of activities towards Philippine Independence.

The city government will also join the simultaneous flag raising ceremony all throughout the country tomorrow, May 28, 2008 at seven in the morning.

All provincial governors, city and municipal mayors punong barangays and others concerned are enjoined to observe the different activities suggested by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the National Historical Institute (NHI) to observe launching of the flag advocacy days from May 15-June 30, 2008.

Flag Reverence Day or the National Flag Day on May 28, 2008 will signal the beginning of the celebration of the 110th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

This was stated in the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular Number 2008-81 dated May 14 and penned by Acting Secretary Austere A. Panadero.

Radio Station DYMS "Aksyon Radyo" announcers Marvin Añonuevo and Rommel Rutor aired a brief orientation on proper handling of the Philippine flag during their radio program "Bantay Probinsiya".

The duo explained that on the merit of DepEd Order No. 83, DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus directed field offices to strengthen, respect and pay allegiance to Philippine Flag by banning canned music during flag ceremonies or programs and prohibiting the use of tattered or badly faced flags in all schools and offices.

This year's celebration theme urges all Filipinos: "Igalang ang Ating Watawat, Sa Isip, Sa Salita at Sa Gawa."

Near the Capitol in the city of Catbalogan, a tarpaulin with the gigantic flag inscribed with "Bayan Kong Mahal" measuring 10 x 5 feet has been placed by the PENRO-DENR; the Information Officer said that two of these are placed in CENRO Basey, facing San Juanico Bridge and another in Buray, Wright Junction.
