Cong. Gonzales allocates P1.2 million for lending program

Iloilo City (11 January) -- Congressman Raul Gonzalez, Jr. of the lone district of Iloilo City allotted some P1.2 million from the CDF of his district as lending fund to help the impoverished sector of the city access to credit and livelihood opportunities that would help them increase their income and cope with the economic difficulties.

This was announced by Cong. Gonzales during the graduation of some 311 residents from thirty barangays of the city, who have undergone a series of livelihood trainings.

The fund will help alleviate poverty by transforming the program beneficiaries’ livelihood projects into a viable business enterprise, Cong. Gonzales said.

During the graduation program, DTI-Iloilo Director Diosdado Cadena said that the beneficiaries of the livelihood training program have availed of the necessary skills on meat processing, business management, entrepreneurship, food packaging and labeling, candle making, delicacies making, swine management and production, reflexology, shiatsu and foot spa. The series of trainings were funded by the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Cong. Raul Gonzalez, Jr.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas expects results from the 311 graduates and hopes that Congressman Gonzales will extend more livelihood training funds to help develop the impoverished sector of the area, and likewise thanked the support of the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, TESDA, City Agriculturist office and the NGOs.

Alemar Silvederio of Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district, expressed gratitude for the Congressman’s livelihood program, for after graduating under the swine management and production training, they were given twenty piglets to start off with their venture.

Meanwhile, Congressman Gonzalez urged local officials for cooperation and unity to achieve national progress and development. During the graduation program, he cited some of his developmental projects brought in the city and assured that he will continue bringing more developmental projects for the growth of the city.
