DSWD starts releasing quarter pension of older persons by Lilibeth A. French

ILOILO CITY, July 28 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Office 6 has already started the disbursement of funds for the second quarter pension of indigent older persons in the region who qualified for the government’s social pension program.

“Some local government units in the region have already distributed the second quarter pension of P1,500 to their beneficiaries covering the months of April, May and June this year,” said DSWD 6 Focal Person for Older Person Judith Marte.

Marte referred to the LGUs of Roxas City and the town of Ivisan, all in Capiz province. On the other hand, the towns of Pan-ay and Dao, also in Capiz have set their distribution on July 29 and August 2.

In Iloilo, beneficiaries in Sta. Barbara town are scheduled to receive their second quarter pensions on August 1 while beneficiaries in Iloilo City will receive their first and second quarter pensions at the Molo Gym on Thursday, July 28.

Marte said checks for the payment of pension of beneficiaries in Anini-y in Antique, Altavas in Aklan and Cabatuan, Iloilo for the second quarter have also been released already.

“Each beneficiary receives a P500 monthly stipend under the program which is also provided under Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 intended to augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs”, said Marte.

The DSWD 6 has released a total of P12,534,000 for the first quarter pension of poor beneficiaries of the government’s program in 133 local government units in the region.

There are 8, 356 poor senior citizens in the region who qualified for the program. Of the total number of beneficiaries, 3,523 are from Iloilo, 1,475 from Negros Occidental, 1,072 in Antique, 1,018 in Aklan, 896 in Capiz, 372 in Guimaras and 178 in Iloilo City.

Prioritized under the program are indigent older persons who are 77 years old and above, sickly, frail, disabled and have no pension or regular support from their families. (JCM/LAF/PIA-Iloilo)
