DTI lines up consumer advocacy programs for Consumer Month

KALIBO, Aklan, Oct 11 (PIA) -- To celebrate Consumer Welfare Month this month, the Department of Industry (DTI) has lined up activities to heighten consumers’ awareness on the different consumer advocacy programs of the government.
The DTI is this year’s lead agency to celebrate the event with the theme, “Get Organized. Be Heard. Be Empowered," DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr. said.
The activities include hanging of streamers in front of the DTI Office and other government offices during October, information campaign on consumer rights, responsibilities and fair trade laws, price monitoring of basic and prime commodities to include Christmas lights and other Noche Buena products and “Diskwento” Sale Project in Numancia Public Market and Numancia Covered Court on October 19, Cadena said.
DTI-Aklan will also be holding a forum on consumerism on October 26 and provincial consumers’ assembly and induction of officers of Balete and Madalag Consumers Associations on the same date and venue at Bel’s Garden in Tigayon, Kalibo.
Participants to the forum will be from sectors such as government, academe, students, people’s organizations, non-government organizations, business, professional groups and civil society.
Resource persons will come from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the DTI.
Invited too to grace the forum were Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, Kalibo Mayor William Lachica and Poblacion Kalibo Barangay Captain Mary Jane Rebaldo. (JCM/VGV-PIA6 Aklan)
