KALIBO, Aklan, December 13 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is not just into monitoring prices and quality of Noche Buena products and Christmas lights this Christmas, it is also into monitoring the standards of firecrackers.
According to DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena, Jr., they have started going around Kalibo to monitor the quality of firecrackers being sold to the public as one of their additional responsibilities this Christmas season.
"We have to see if the firecrackers sold in Aklan were manufactured according to standards. We are also coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to perform this task," Cadena said.
He said the task of the PNP will be to designate an area where sale of firecrackers could be conducted.
During recent years, the area near the Calachuchi Road in Andagao, Kalibo was used by vendors In Numancia, it was along the roadside at Barangay Laguinbanua East.
Earlier, the DTI revealed that throughout the country, there are only 10 licensed manufacturers of firecrackers.
Three of these are from Western Visayas, two in Negros Occidental and one in Iloilo.
All firecrackers produced by these authorized manufacturers have the Product Standard (PS) marks ensuring that these are safe to the public, according to the DTI. (JCM/VGV PIA 6 Aklan)
