Entrepreneurs earn P1.06M in Ati-atihan product showcase

KALIBO, Aklan, Jan 30 (PIA-6) -- The week-long Kalibo Ati-atihan Product Showcase held at the Kalibo Pastrana Park as one of the major attractions of the Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-atihan Festival 2013 earned for 28 micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) P1.06 million in cash sales and booked orders.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr. said Although this year’s performance fell short by 28 percent as compared to last year’s performance of P1.486 million, six exhibitors in the health and wellness products and indigenous fibers and crafts generated booked orders.

Cadena also said 12 market linkages were established with local traders from Roxas, Iloilo, Manila and one hotel in Boracay for the herbal soap, ginger and lemon tea, woven wearables, and clay products.

Samples of these products were also brought by buyers for market test/distribution in their outlets and souvenir shops in Manila and other provinces, Cadena revealed.

The conduct of the product showcase, as in previous years, was headed by the Hugod Aklanon Producers Association, Inc., DTI, municipal government of Kalibo, and the Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-atihan Foundation Inc.

The product showcase opening was graced by DTI USec Merly Cruz, Department of Tourism-6 Regional Director Helen J. Catalbas, Kalibo Mayor William Lachica, Vice Mayor Madeline Regalado, Aklan Tourism Council chair Vicky Ramos Antonino, DTI 6 Regional Director Dominic Abad, and many others.

Displayed for sale and orders during the one week showcase were Aklan’s indigenous fibers and crafts, gifts and housewares, furniture and furnishings, processed foods, health and wellness and garden plants. (JCM/VGV-PIA 6, Aklan)
