Local chiefs, DILG stakeholders meet in governance gab
Cagayan de Oro City (14 December) -- Provincial governors, mayors and other stakeholders of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 10 (DILG-10) will gather this morning at the DILG-10 Regional Office for a Local Governance Forum.
DILG Undersecretary for Local Government Austere Panadero will be there to give the keynote address. City Mayor Constantino Jaraula will give a welcome message.
The local chief executives and the members of the Multi-Stakeholders Advisory Committee (MSAC) will view the region's State of Local Governance Report (SLGR) and the best practices of the two highly commended programs of Linamon, Lanao del Norte and Naawan, Misamis Oriental.
SLGR is a concise and comprehensive report of the local government unit state of performance, productivity and development conditions. It is a document that will serve as a benchmark for the local elected officials to base their directions towards a better performance.
Further, SLGR is prepared to provide information relevant in planning, budgeting, policy- and decision-making, citizen participation, and fund sourcing.
The Local Governance Forum will be a good venue for the governors and mayors to give their respective impressions on the said report. On the other hand, the MSAC members will present their respective programs that can address the gaps and weaknesses of region 10 as identified in the said report.
Said forum falls under the program of DILG – the Local Governance Resource Center (LGRC).
LGRC is the DILG's response to the growing demand for knowledge management in the arena of local governance. It is a dynamic, interactive, virtual program and center that will contribute to the strengthening of local governance enabling environment. It also promotes a culture of learning thru knowledge sharing and application of exemplary practices. (DILG-10)
