PFLCW reg'l trainings strengthen local council of women

Tacloban City (April 10) -- In its continued initiative to strengthen the Local Council of Women nationwide, the Philippine Federation of Local Councils of Women, Inc., has scheduled a series of regional trainings for the year 2008.

PFLCW President Rosalind Wee and Chairperson Myrna Yao informed that this activity is the result of the recommendation and discussion made in the last 5th PFLCW General Assembly held on November 23, 2007 at Baguio City.

The Regional Trainings aim to achieve several objectives such as to establish and update the data base on existing Local Councils of Women nationwide; to organize LCWs in areas where there are no existing LCWs and strengthen those LGUs with existing LCWs.

The Regional Training is seen as a venue to orient the LGUs, LCW Board and Members on the economic empowerment programs which the PFLCW intends to implement in various localities.

It is the vision of the PFLCW to see that an institutional body which is GO-NGO partnership in the locality will serve as a mechanism that will work for the empowerment of women.

Thus, Mrs. Wee is hopeful of the attendance of a GO representative from the LGU-GAD or from the Committee on Women and an NGO member from the local councils of women. The attendance of the local social welfare and development officer is likewise requested.

The Registration fee for the Training is pegged at P3,600.00 to cover food and accommodation and the cost of assembly materials and kits.

For the Visayas Cluster which includes Regions 6, 7 and 8, the Regional Enhancement Training for the Local Council of Women, will be conducted on May 12-14, 2008 at Cebu Business Hotel, Colon cor. Junquera St., Cebu City.

The is the second batch of Training, the first being Regions III, IV-A, IV-B and NCR, on April 28 - 30, at the Ciudad Christina Resort at San Mateo, Rizal.

The training at Region V is the 3rd batch. It will be held on May 21-23 at Alicia Hotel, Legaspi City while Regions IX, X and XI will be on July 7-9 at Top Plaza Hotel, Dipolog City.

Batch 5, composed of Regions XII, ARMM and CARAGA will have their training on July 23 -25 at the Family Country Hotel and Convention Center at General Santos City; while Batch 6 composed of Regions I, II and CAR will have their training on August 4-6 at Hotel Consuelo, Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Mrs. Wee said that these activities have been endorsed by the Department of Interior and Local Government in a memorandum Circular No. 2008-42 signed by Undersecretary for Local Government Austere Panadero. (PIA 8)
