PNoy to keynote ARMM local governance summit

COTABATO CITY June 19 (PIA) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III will be the keynote speaker tomorrow, Wednesday, at a gathering of stakeholders who will discuss issues on Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao at the Waterfront Hotel in Davao City.
The two-day activity dubbed ARMM Local Government Unit (LGU) Convention on Local Governance started today, June 19. The event is being undertaken by the autonomous regional government in partnership with The Asia Foundation and Balai Mindanao Foundation (BMF) as a venue to further enhance camaraderie and partnerships and securing commitment of ensuring successful implementation of government programs and projects.
Among the attendees are local officials, government executives, foreign donors, representatives from non-government organizations (NGOs).
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will deliver the welcome address followed by an update on Acting Regional Governor’s Hataman’s priority thrusts on open governance, socio-economic, and peace and security in consonance with theme “Matuwid na Pamamahala Tungo sa ARMM na Masagana’t Mapayapa.”
The ARMM’s five provincial governors, two city and 116 municipal mayors will participate in workshops, the results of which will be presented by Regional Governor Hataman to the President.
Event highlights include the launching of the Seal of Good Housekeeping and awarding of the Performance and Challenge Fund to local government unit-recipients; and the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for implementation of potable water supply project between RG Hataman, five provincial governors and DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.
The MOA signing would be witnessed by DIlG Undersecretary Austere Panadero and DILG-ARMM Secretary Haroun Al Rashid Lucman, Jr.
Some of the invited guests include Presidential Political Adviser Secretary Ronald Llamas, DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, Promotion for Peace and Prosperity in the Philippines Board of Trustee Amina Rasul Bernardo, Yasmin Busran-Lao, Presidential Adviser on Muslim Concerns, representatives of USAID, UNICEF, Asia Foundation, members of the Regional Legislative Assembly (RlA), civil society groups and non-government organizations.
