Repair, rehab of typhoon-damaged infra ongoing

Iloilo City (14 July) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 6 had already completed the immediate repair of four of 11 bridges which were totally damaged by typhoon Frank, located in Magapa, Janiuay, Pajo and Ulian in Lambunao, and the Kantil Box culvert in Badiangan, all in the province of Iloilo, with an estimated cost of P248, 500,000.
This amount also covers the on-going repair being done in other areas, which include the installation of bailey bridges in Tigum Bridge in Cabatuan, Imelda Marcos brideg in Maasin, Valderrrama Bridge in Antique, and the Bugo Bridge in San Remegio, Antique.
It likewise includes improvement of alternate routes, and on-going restoration of approaches in Baltazar Aquino Bridge, Leon, Nichols Bridge in Alimodian, and Camanggahan Bridge, Guimbal, with all cut bridges provided with footbridge for human passage.
In his report, DPWH Dir. Rolando Asis said all bridges with damaged approaches have been made passable even as on-going repairs of protection works or approaches are still being done, with an estimated cost of P30,905,000.
As to road networks, Asis reported that they have made all road sections with slides and cuts passable even as repairs are still going on, which include the Cross Drainage eroded in Barotac Nuevo, completed as of July 6, and the Iloilo-Capiz Road, new route Pototan section which opened July 7. The repair involved a cost estimate of P79, 806,000.
Meanwhile, all the flooded portions of the roads in Iloilo City are now made passable as repairs are being undertaken, mud and spoils removed.
As of press time, DPWH said that mud and debris have been removed from five main roads in Kalibo, with on-going mopping operations and clearing activities in the minor streets of the town. (DPWH/PIA 6)
