THE GLOW, JUNE - DECEMBER 2006 Patronal Town Fiesta Baylon crowned Miss Cabatuan '06 Queen Janice is crowned by Cong. Arthur Defensor and Pisces Joy Razon (partly hidden, Miss Cabatuan 2005, while Escort John Rico Pedregosa looks on. The legislator who also was the coronation speaker is assisted by Mayor Ramon C. yee. Janice Pedregosa Baylon was crowned as the town fiesta queen during the coronation ceremonies held on September 10 at the town plaza's covered gymnasium. The coronation ceremonies started with a torch parade at 8:00 p.m. from the residence of the queen in Brgy. Ayaman to the covered gym. The municipal mayor, Hon. Ramon C. Yee, welcomed all the guests to the coronation program. He also did the honor of officially proclaiming the fiesta queen. Mayor Rolly Distura of Dumangas, Iloilo delivered the encomium for the queen. The fiesta queen was jointly crowned by Pisces Joy C. Razon, Miss Cabatuan 2005, Mayor Ramon C. Yee, and Cong. Arthur D. Defensor who also delivered his coronation message. The town fiesta queen was consorted by her cousin John Rico Pedregosa. The consort is a third year high school student of the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City. Miss Cabatuan 2006 is the fourth child of Mr. Jesus V. Baylon, a businessman, and the former Ma. Gracia Pedregosa, a MAPEH teacher of the Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School. She obtained her elementary education at the Cabatuan Central Elementary School. She continued her secondary education at CNCHS and was known to be a student leader and a potential athlete. At present, she is a second year student of the University of San Agustin where she is pursuing a degree leading to Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The members of the Royal Court were Princess Edralyn and Princess Jhomabel. The first princess, Edralyn Cuarte Provido, is 16 years old and the daughter of the late Edilbert S. Provido and the former Evelyn Cuarte, a businesswoman. She is a first year Nursing student of Iloilo Doctor's College in Iloilo City. Her consort was Jared M. Que, son of Mr. Robert Que and the former Grace Millamena. His parents are both engaged in business. He is also taking up Bachelor of Science in Nursing at PPTS Medicus in Iloilo City. The second princess, Jhomabel Dalas Cabello, is the daughter of Moises R. Cabello Jr., a seaman, and the former Leonora Dalas, a businesswoman. The 18-year old princess is a second year Nursing student of the West Negros College in Bacolod City. She was consorted by Mark Jason Patane, a student of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation in Molo, Iloilo City. He is the son of Mr. Jose Marie Patane and the former Juanita Umadhay. TEA-SC projects completed A project beneficial to students and teachers of the school has been effected in CNCHS during school year 2005-2006. Situated at the right side of the gym and adjacent to the road in front of the administration building are rows of concrete bleachers. The cemented bleachers are the projects of the Teachers and Employees Association (TEA) and Senior Council (SC) of the school. The construction of rows of bleachers near the right wing of the stage of the gym was financed by the Senior Council and that of the adjoining rows was financed by the TEA. The concrete bleachers can accommodate a big number of students during school programs and activities. The TEA is chaired by Mr. Lope B. Apelo, Jr, a MAPEH teacher of the school. Mr. Joselito Bastiero was then the adviser of the Senior Council when the construction of the cemented bleachers started. The two associations have been partners of CNCHS in financing and effecting their numerous projects. Concrete Bleachers. The bleachers serve also as concrete embankment that supports the road in front of the administration building from erosion. Former mayor passes away A former mayor who also became former vice mayor of the town died on November 19, 2006 at the age of 91 years old. Fidel M. Ahumada peacefully passed away due to a lingering illness and old age. He breathed his last in the presence of his wife, the former Loreto Pueyo, and his children in his residence in Huesca Street. To honor the late Local Chief Executive, Mayor Ramon C. Yee issued an Executive Order No. 2006-19 directing all government agencies stationed in Cabatuan, and all public and private schools in town to raise the national flag at half mast from December 4-10, 2006. On the day of his burial on December 10, 2006, the deceased was honored in a necrological program sponsored by the Local Government Unit. Five speakers eulogized the late Mayor Ahumada. Mrs. Rosita R. Umadhay spoke on behalf of Iloilo Retired Public School Teachers Association. The second eulogy was delivered by Mr. Reynaldo Gico, the principal of Guimbal High School where the late Fidel M. Ahumada retired from government service as principal of the school. Mr. Ricardo Moneva, the Cabatuan Post Commander of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, also eulogized the former World War II veteran. In behalf of Cabatuan Historical Society, Mr. Leo Padilla, the chair of Cabatuan Historical Society, delivered words of praises for the contributions of the deceased in the making of the town's history book. The last eulogy was delivered by Mayor Ramon C. Yee who served during the incumbency of then Vice Mayor Fidel Ahumada as member of the Sanguniang Bayan. The OIC administrator and department heads of Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School offered flowers to the deceased who had been a teacher of the school for several years. The Sangguniang Bayan, through Vice Mayor Ronilo O. Caspe, presented a resolution of condolence to the bereaved family. The resolution was received in behalf of the family by Mrs. Loreto P. Ahumada, the wife, who also delivered the response during the necrological program. Sadava punches win gold in boxing tourney A pugilist of the school showed a remarkable performance in the boxing arena when his powerful and accurate punches dominated other boxers in a boxing competition held during the Iloilo Integrated Meet '06. Aemhan B. Sadava won a gold medal in a 39-kg category boxing tournament. He is 14 years old and a first year student of the school. He was the school bet in boxing who represented the Municipality of Cabatuan in the 3rd Congressional Meet '06 and emerged as a gold medalist. Sadava started to show potentials and interest in boxing when he was still a pupil of Maraguit Elementary School. When he became a student of the school, his boxing skills were further developed under the tutelage of Mr. Vicente Gador who coached and trained him on boxing techniques and maneuvers. As a gold medal winner, he will automatically represent the Division of Iloilo to the Regional Meet to be held in February 2007 in Negros Occidental. The boxer is the son of Antonio J. Sadava and the former Araceli Buenavides. The family lives in Brgy. Ayong, Cabatuan, Iloilo Integrated Meet '06 Tennis team hits gold by: Kryslyn Alyssa Solacito A gold medal was garnered by the Tennis team of the school when it was declared the champion in the Tennis competition team category during the Integrated Meet '06. Composing the team were Junlin Pueyo, a fourth year student and his younger brother Nestor Pueyo, Jr. a second year student of the school. Reoniel Fuertes, also a Sophomore, and Jose Aleman, Jr. of III-13. Their female teammates were Ma. Lyn Troncoso, a silver medalist in the WVRAA '06. Sheena June Pancrudo of 4-Archimedes, Leanne Quilnat, and Ayesha June Clamucha of I-Newton and I-Euclid, respectively. In the individual tournament, Sheena June Pancrudo got a silver medal while Ma. Lyn Troncoso won the bronze in singles (girls) category. The duo of Leanne Quilnat and Ayesha June Clamucha and that of Nestor Pueyo, Jr. and Reoniel Fuertes garnered each a silver medal in doubles (girls) and (boys) category. Top player of the team, Sheena June Pancrudo, will compete in the Regional Meet in February, 2007. The tennis players were trained and coached by Mrs. Visluzminda M. Catedral and Miss Caridad Jardiolin, trainers and coaches. |
