Alumna receives Outstanding Achievement Award

Nympha de la Rosa-Romero, class 1959 of Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School
received the Outstanding Achievement Award from Dallas Section of American Institute of
Chemical Engineers (AICHE) during the National Engineers Week Annual Awards Gala at
the Dallas Grande Hotel, Dallas, Texas USA on February 28.
The award is in recogniton of her contribution to the chemical engineering profession.
Engr. Romero is a B.S. Chemical Engineering graduate of FEATI University in Manila,
Philippines and Associate in Computer Science from North Lake College in Irving, Texas,
USA.
After passing the professional board examination in 1976, she joined the Research Team of the
Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in Tigbauan, Iloilo. She worked on
water quality and waste water treatment studies. In mid -1979, she worked as a project expert
with Food Agricultural Organization of the United Nations Development Program (FAO-UNDP)
projects in the Philippines. She was responsible for the preparation of project proposals,
economic studies, implementation and application of the Artemia and fertilizer projects. She
prepared a manual for Artemia production in salt ponds in the Philippines.
When she migrated in the USA in 1981, she worked for Litwin Engineers and Constructors in
Houston. She worked as a Process System Engineer involved in the design of refineries and
industrial plants.
In 1985, she joined the City of Dallas Public Works and Transportation Department where she
was involved from design to construction with asbestos abatement, HVAC cooling tower and
the new moving walk projects of Dallas Love airport terminal, apart from taxiways and runways
construction projects. She is also involved with the current Cedar Springs entrance road project
at the Dallas Love field and the US $2M project - 8 foot, 9 miles perimeter fence of Love Field
airport.
Engr. Romero has been active in Dallas Section of American Institute of Chemical Engineers
for 8 years and has served as secretary, vice chair and chair. She is also active in AICHE
government catalyst grassroots advocacy program.
She is currently assistant to the Aviation Program Manager of Facilities Planning and Construction.
Nympha de la Rosa-Romero, P.E. is married to Gilbert Romero with whom she has a daughter
named Judee. Judee is in Junior High School at Luke's Catholic School in Irving, Texas where
the family resides.
