PBS General Secretary Dr. Nora Lucero said the theme for NBVV 2015 is "Sharing the Word, Empowering the Poor, Transforming the Land". This is based on Psalm 41:1 in the Good News Translation, which reads, 'Happy are those who are concerned for the poor, the Lord will help them when they are in trouble,' and Luke 6:20 (New American Bible Revised Edition), which says, 'Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours,"' she explained. Dr. Lucero also said that the Bible Society continues to expand its network so that more people can join in the celebration. We are continuously working with churches from various faith councils, national and local government agencies, private companies and business organizations, public and private schools, and even families and individuals to coordinate and organize celebrations all over the country. In particular, we hope to engage them in our banner events: iProclaim, Handwritten Unity Bible, and Bible Fun Run," Dr. Lucero said. The annual celebrations, which are held every last week and last Sunday of January, have been established by virtue of proclamations issued by Presidents Ferdinand Marcos, Corazon Aquino, and Fidel Ramos. These proclamations recognize the Bible as "an excellent source of principles for moral and personal discipline," and designate the last week of January as National Bible Week, culminating on the month's last Sunday as the National Bible Sunday. The Presidential edicts also stress the need for "national attention to be focused on the importance of reading and studying the Bible and its use in molding the spiritual, moral, and social fiber of our country."
