Cabatuananon, a heavy favorite in Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant PATRIZIA GARRIDO BOSCO, MUTYA NG MILAN CANDIDATE, MUTYA NG PILIPINAS 2014 PAGEANT Parents: Chona Garrido of Alimodian and Cabatuan and the late Gaudenzio Bosco of Milan, Italy August 7, 2014 - Patrizia Garrido Bosco, the Mutya ng Milan (Italy) candidate in the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 pageant, has been consistently picked as one of the favorites, if not the favorite. She is representing the Filipino Community in Italy and speaks Ilonggo (Kinaray-a). She has won the following pre-coronation awards: Top 10 Best in Swimsuit (Puerto Princesa, Palawan), Top 10 Best in Long Gown, Darling of the Press, Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 Miss Lee Cooper Jeans, Mutya ng Pilipinas Sheridan Resort, Miss Confidence by Tupperware Brands. Her great grandfather is Juan Garrido, the wartime WW2 resistance mayor of Cabatuan under fellow Cabatuananon, Tomas Confesor, the Governor of Panay & Romblon. By virtue of his being the Cabatuan Mayor, Juan Garrido and his family were captured by the Japanese on December 28, 1943 in Barrio Pamuringao, Cabatuan, and massacred on January 4, 1944 in Barrio Nanga, Guimbal, Iloilo. Killed with him were his wife, Concordia Tabiana, and four children, Lilia, Nicolas, Sergia and Juan Garrido Jr.; and his sister, Consolacion Garrido Blanch and her three children, Enrique, Remedios and Salvador Blanch. Barrio Pamuringao was later renamed Barrio Pamuringao-Garrido in his honor. Juan's other children, Manuel, Ernesto, Cesar and Consejo, survived the incident. Ernesto Garrido, and Cecilia Garrido of Pilar Camotes (Cebu), are Patrizia's grandparents. Patrizia's parents are Chona Garrido, the daughter of Ernesto & Cecilia; and the late Gaudenzio Bosco of Milan, Italy. Patrizia can speak the local dialect of Cabatuan and Alimodian, which is Ilonggo/Kinaray-a. She was only 3 years old when her dad Gaudenzio passed away from cancer. She grew up under the loving care of her stepdad, Stefano Rijoff, who was the mayor of Muggio, near Milan, during that period. Another Garrido relative was Congressman Ramon Tabiana. The hospital in Cabatuan now bears his name as a memorial. The Garridos of Cabatuan, as well as Alimodian and other towns, trace their lineage to the sister of Fr. Manuel Gutierrez, the Spanish Parish Priest of Cabatuan in the 1890's who brought his family to Iloilo when he was assigned here. Doña Ana Gutierrez y Montoro (Fr. Gutierrez' sister) married Don Juan Garrido y Pelaez from Malaga, Spain. They have one son, Don Jose Garrido y Gutierrez who married Josefa Tabiana of Tubungan. Juan Garrido Mayor of Cabatuan, Iloilo, from 1941 to 1943 (Photo courtesy of Maribeth Garrido Solis) Father Gutierrez began as the Parish Priest of Cabatuan, Iloilo on February 12, 1890.   While serving as the town's parish priest, he was also the "Vicario Provincial y foraneo, Examinador de Idioma, Visitador en Iloilo y distrito de la Concepcion (1890)" and later "Definidor" (1893) of the Agustinian Order. Fr. Gutierrez decorated the Cabatuan Church during his assignment. His renovations earned praises, leading one Iloilo newspaper to call the Cabatuan Church the Model of Temples. In 1895, Fr. Manuel Gutierrez left Cabatuan for Manila to become the Secretary General, and then Provincial Prior, the top post of the Agustinian Order in the whole of the Philippines and China. He was the Provincial Prior when the Spanish-American War started, and as such, he and top American and Filipino military officers exchanged letters regarding the safety and freedom of Agustinian priests and nuns and the orphans in their care. The descendants of the Garrido family now reside primarily in Cabatuan, Alimodian, Leon and Molo. Born in Italy, Patrizia Garrido Bosco studied Commercial Journalism with different languages like German, English, Spanish and Japanese. She loves to travel and had been almost around the world. She is particularly interested in her Filipino roots and, in addition to the languages mentioned, she can speak Ilonggo (Kinaray-a). The Grand Coronation of the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014 will be held on Friday on August 8, 2014, 7 P.M., at the Grand Ballroom, Solaire Resort & Casino, Manila.
