MARCH 1993 THE GLOW 13 SCOUTS JOIN ALUMNUS-PRIEST OFFERS HOLY MASS ENCAMPMENTS by Josefina Pancrudo by Rosela Cornago A number of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the school attended separate encampment held recently. Four senior Girl Scouts of the school participated in a regional GSP en­campment held in Camp Marina, Cebu City on February 18-23. On the other hand, 16 Boy Scouts of the school attended a BSP Western Visayas Re­gional Agro-Industrial Jamborette held in Alibunan, Calinog, Iloilo on February 21 - 26. The school's contingent to the Jamborette was composed of ten first year students. They were Francis Allan Angelo Jr., Glenn Catolin, Ryan Halili, Ursulo Libiano Jr., Joven Porcal, Archie Tacay, Francis Cocoba, Emmanuel Barrido, Jiffy Jame Tenefrancia, and Raul Tiongson Jr. Four Sophomore students formed part of the contingent. They were Jofido Dabi, Adonis Marcelo Laguna, Anwar Jurinario, and Edu­ard Sean Regondon. The two other delegates ofthe school to the jamborette are Junior students. They were Santiago Mantiles and Policarpo Estrada. The 16 delegates of the school to the regional BSP jamborette were accompanied by their scouters, Mr. David Machado Jr. and Mr. Gregorio Sala, school coordinator of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Mrs. Evelina. R. Artieda, head ofthe PERM department of the school coordinates the school's Girl Scouts ofthe Philippines activi­ties. Scouters receive service awards Rev. Fr. Benito P. Sagra, MSP, offered a Holy Mass in his Alma Mater on February 5, at 7:30 a.m. in front of the administration building ofthe school. The Massway attended .by the faculty, the staff, and the studentry of the school. Fr. Sagra is a missionary priest belonging to Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP) based in Tagaytay City, Batangay. At present, he is assigned on a mission in Papua, New Guinea. During his homily, Fr. Sagra thanked his formerteachers forhaving apart in his religious life. He recounted his experiences, some of which are heart-rendering, while on mission in Papua, New Guinea. To increase priestly vocations, he encouraged male students ofthe school to join priesthood. "The harvest is great but the laborers are few," he said. - The Holy Mass offered by Fr. Sagra in CNCHS was made possible while he was on a business in Iloilo City. Also as a token of his love and gratitude to his Alma Mater, he offered a Holy Mass in Cabatuan Central Elementary School from where he finished his elementary education in 1973 as second honors. Fr. Sagra is an alumnus of CNCHS, having graduated as salutatorian in 1977. During his high school days, he was an active student leader. He held top positions of leadership in school clubs and organizations. He was a campus writer, having been the editor of THE GLOW, the school paper. As a campus writer, he won top honors in provincial and regional secondary schools press conferences, specifically in editorial writing, news writing, and sportswriting. FR. BENITO P. SAGRA, MSP He was also very active in boy scouting. He was chose " Mr. Boy Scout Youth Forum" of Area VII, as w ell as of the province and city of Iloilo. Because of his innate intelligence, talent, and forensic skills, he was chosen one of the three Boy Scouts in Western Visayas, who sat and discussed with the members of the National Executive Committee of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Fr. Benito P. Sagra, MSP, is -a son of Petronila Sagra and the former Lilia Parian. His father, a native of Cabatuan, is a retired teacher of Janiuay. His mother is the assistant treasurer of Janivay, Iloilo. The family resides in Janiuay. After his high school, the youthful Benito took up Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree in Manila. After his first year college studies, he felt that he had the priestly vocation so he decided to join priesthood. He was ordained a priest two years ago. Three scouters of the school received ser­vice awards from the Boy Scouts ofthe Philip­pines during the National Court of Honor held on March. The awardees were Mr. Dante Roldan, Mr. Gregorio Sala, and Mr. David Machado Jr. Roldan received a Gold Service Award; Sala, a Silver Service Award; and Machado, a Bronze Service Award. For several years, the three awardees ha­ven active Boy Scouters of CNCHS. Mr. Gregorio Sala coordinates the Boy Scouting activities in school. Every year, the Boy Scouts of the Philip­pines gives awards to scouters and laymen who have commendable contributions to boy scouting movement. Mr. Victor S. Maroma, Master Teacher I and adviser of the school paper, was promoted to the position of Master Teacher 11. His promotion papers were released by the re­gional office ofthe Civil Service Commission on March 29. For twelve years, Maroma has been Master Teacher I of the school. When the position of Master Teacher II was vacated by retired Mr. Godofredo Suarez, Maromawashighly recom­mended by the school administration to oc­cupy the vacated position. To give way to the promotion of Maroma, eigth other Master Teachers I signed a waiver in favor of Maroma. They were Miss Aida Comodero, Mrs. Manuela Alcayga, Mrs. Julia Caspe, Mrs. Consejo Gonzaga, Miss Milagros Andon, Miss Teresita Libiano, Mr. Alejandro Trojillo, and Mr. Rafael Ardo. With the promotion of Maroma, two posi­tions of Master Teacher I are vacant. The other position was vacated by Mrs. Loreto P. Ahumada when she retired last June 1992.
