14 THE GLOW MARCH 1993 Plaza design tilt on; deadline set by Emil Pedrola A plaza development plan making contest was launched on March 15 by the Municipal Plaza Development Planning Committee chairmanned by Engr. Jose Norma Umadhay, the municipal and development council offi­cer. . The contest is open to all interested parties. The registration of participants started on March 16 and the deadline of submission of entries on May 31. Winners will be announced on June 12. The contest rules are: (1) Participants may submit one or more entries. (2) All drawings must be in a 3 0 inches by 40 inches illustration board to show the development plan and perspective. (3) All drawings must be col­ored. (4) Proposed development plan must be drawn to a scale of 1:400. (5) Additional boards or sheets may be submitted to show sections or details. (6) All entries must consider the following: design of stage and amphitheater, mainentrance, slopes and elevations, public urinals, lightings, trees, sound boxes, tree park, sports facilities such -as tennis court, volleyball court, and football ground. The estimated project cost must not exceed P20 million. Criteria for judging include particability -40% presentation - 20%; aesthetic - 40%_ The board of judges will be chairmanned by Mayor Eliseo C. Tobias with the members of the Sangguniang Bayan or their represeA­tatives as members. A cash prize of P3,000.00 and a plaque of recognition will be awarded to the first prize winner. All participants will be given a certifi­cate of appreciation. Post Office inaugurated by Jane Romallosa Amidst simple ceremonies, the new local post office was inaugurated on March 27, at 3:00 p.m. The inauguration rites were witnessed by local government officials headed by Mayor Eliseo C. Tobias and some provincial officials ofthe Postal Service Office. Fr. Amadeo Escanan, the parish priest, blessed the new building. The latest addition to new buildings in town was constructed through the funds from the Department of Transportation and Fifteen Colleges and universities in Iloilo City conducted career guidance on the fourth year students of the school on February 18 and 19. These schools came to CNCHS upon the invitation ofthe Guidance Office ofthe school. To facilitate the smooth and fair holding of career guidance, the Guidance Office sched­uled the series of career talks. Each school was allotted only 30 minutes to talk to gradu­ating students. On February 18, representatives of St. Paul College of Iloilo and De Paul College talked to graduating students in the morning. The afternoon sessions were conducted by person­nel from Professional Electronics School and Associated Computer Systems, Inc. The next day, February 19, four city schools held their own sessions with graduating stu­dents. The first talk was made by representa­tives of Central Philippine University. This was followed by the talk of personnel from Western Visayas College of Science and Tech­nology. Also in the morning, a team from John B. The Regional Office of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) conducted an achievement test on third year students of the school on February 23. Mr. Eduardo Pefiaranda, general education supervisor II, conducted the achievement test in behalf of DECS Regional Office. Only 60 third year students of the school were allowed to take the test. The examinees were chosen at random from the 14 sections of third year students of the school. They were Communication inthe amount of P500,000.00. The appropriated amount was released through the Postal Service Office based in Manila. RBP Construction Supply, a private construction firm that won the right to construct the building in a public bidding, undertook the construction work. The work started on October 19, 1992. The modern government building now houses the post office and the telecommuni­cations office. Mr. Rolito Amboy heads the local Postal Service Office. Lacson Colleges Foundation dialogued with the Senior students. Another talk from a bat­tery of speakers from West Visayas State University ensued. The last career talk in the morning was made by the team of Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. The afternoon session opened with a career talk of the representatives of Cabalum. West­ern College. Speakers of Colegio de San Jose followed next. Then came the turn of the career guidance team ofthe University of San Agustin. The mid-afternoon session was pre­sided over by the team of Polytechnic School of Iloilo. Finally, personnel from the univer­sity of Iloilo conducted their own career guid­ance. All the career guidance sessions were held in the school library. The sessions were planned and coordinated by the Guidance Office, staffed by Miss Belen Huyo, Mrs. Milagros Azin, and Mrs. Nerissa Apelo. Every year, the school prepares a schedule of career guidance by city schools to guide the graduating students ofthe school on the choice of their career in life. tested on all the subjects under the New Secondary Education Curriculum. The achievement test was conducted for a period in selected secondary schools in the region. It aimed to evaluate the achievement of third year students in all subject areasunder the New Secondary Education Curriculum. The result of the test will be the basis of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports in taking a course ofaction that will strengthen the implementation of the Secondary Education Development Program. It should be noted that the Secondary Education Development Program launched by DECS is on its fourth year of implementation. With its launching, a new curriculum for secondary schools inthe country has been developed. One feature of this new curriculum is the introduction of Values Education and Technology and Home Economics as new subjects. The achievement test given on February 23 was facilitated by the guidance counselors of the school, namely Miss Belen Huyo, Mrs. Milagros C. Azin, And Mrs. Nerissa T. Apelo.
