MARCH 1995 The GLOW Outstanding coops receive awards COWA-Hongkong Chapter to put tip children's playground in town plaza I Three multipurpose cooperatives in tomi were adjudged outstanding cooperatives in Cabatuan for the period January 1994 to Feb­ruary 1995. Named as outstanding cooperatives arc the multipurpose cooperatives of Bacan. Tacdangan, and Tiring. For demonstrating excellent. performance and remarkable growth, the three multipurpose cooperatives were awarded during a program on March 2 at the community stage. Each of the three cooperatives was awarded a Plaque of Rec­ognition and a cash prize of P1,500.00 so­licited from several donors. The awards were given by Mayor Eliseo. C. Tobias and Iloilo Nice governor Robert B. Maroma, chairman of the Provincial Cooperatives Development Council. The search for outstanding cooperatives in town was a part of the observance of the 104th birth anniversary of the late Sen. Tomas V. Confesor. It should be recalled that the late "Stormy Petrel of Philippine Con­gress" sponsored and fought for the approval of Republic Act 3425, better known as Co­operative Marketing Law,. To choose the outstanding cooperatives in town, a screening committee was created. The three-man committee was composed of top officials of Cooperative Development Authority, based in Iloilo City. The selection of the members of the screening committee and the actual judging by the committee were facilitated by another committee composed of Mr. Hugo Trernucha, municipal coopera­tivc development officer, SB Member Ramon Yee, chairman of the committee on coopera­tives in the Sangguniang Bayan; and Mrs. Rosario Reyes, municipal agricultural officer. Drainage system improved The drainage along Berniqio Street in the poblacion recently acquired further improve­ment. The improvement was effected through the appropriation of the municipal govern­ment from its Internal Revenue Allotment in the amount of P300,000.00 Stretching a distance of sonic 300 me­ters, the improved drainage system starts from the intersection of Confesor Drive and Bernicjo Streets to the corner of Estrella and (76 page 14) The Cabatuan Overseas Workers Asso­ciation (COWA) —1-longkong Chapter re­cently sent P40,000.00 to the municipal gov­ernment, through Mayor Elisco C. Tobias. for its children's playground project in the town plaza. The check corresponding to the amount was sent by Ma. Andes Tcjcrcso, president of COWA - Hongkong Chapter. The children's playground will be put in an area presently occupied by the mini-bas­ketball court near the community stage. The site is in accordance with the town plaza development plan, prepared by Cabatuan Development Foundation Inc. and approved by the Sangguniang Bayan of Cabatuan. Tasked by Mayor Tobias to implement and supervise the children's playground project of COWA-Hongkong Chapter is Cabatuan Development Foundation, Inc:, a non-governmental organimtion Much was recently registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and duly ac­credited by the Sangguniang Bayan. With the accreditation of the Cabatuan Development Foundation. Inc., the organi­zation has been authorized to implement the development plan of the town plaza. How? ever, any piece of improvement to be ef­fected in the town plaza, through the or­ganization, will be subject to approval by To observe Holy Week, the Parish of San Nicolas de Tolentino in Cabatuan, Iloilo has lined up a series of activities from April 9­16. The activities will start on April 9. Palm Sunday. To mark the day commemorating the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ to Jeru­salem. Coconut fronds locally known as 11ranios" will be blessed by Fr. Amadeo Escailan, the parish priest, at the bandstand in the town plaza. From Good Monday to Good Wednesday, there will be confessions and a religious con­ference at 6;30 p.m. At 6:30 a.m. of Holy Thursday, there will be the blessing of the holy oil at the faro Cathedral. At 5:00 p.m., a Holy Mass com­memorating the Last Supper of Jesus Christ will be held. This will be followed by a pro­cession of the Holy Eucharist around the Church and will wind up at the monument the Sangguniang Bayan. The initial amount of P40,000.00 sent by COWA-Hongkong Chapter will be used to start the immediate construction of the chil­dren's playground. According to Ma. Andes Tcjcrcso, the president of the overseas or­ganization, in her letter to Dr. Rodclo Temporosa, president of Cabatuan Develop­ment Foundation, Inc., another P40,000.00 will be sent later by COWA-Hongkong Chap­ter upon presentation of program of work and liquidation of the initial amount already sent. There are almost 300 Cabatuananons who are members of COWA-Hongkong Chapter. The officers of the association arc Ma. The adviser of the organi/n­tion is Mr. Josie Lo. where the Holy Eucharist will be enshrined for the faithful to pay homage by way of keeping vigil for the whole night. Also on Holy Thursday, the Last Supper will be re-enacted at 7:00 p.m. at (lie com­munity stage. On Good Friday, a Way of the Cross xN i I I be held starting at 6:00 a.m. It will start from the church to Bilic hill that his the semblance of Calvary where Jesus, Christ was crucified. In the afternoon, ceremonies glorifying the Holy Cross will be held in the churcli, starting at 3:00 p.m. This will be followed by another Way of the Cross along the usual procession route around the poblacion. In the evening the "kapiva" and "pasyon" sing­ing contests will be judged.
