Girl Scouts attend prov'l encampment
Six Girls Scouts of the school attended the provincial encampment of the Girls Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), held in Camp Pasica, Dingle, Iloilo on February 1519. The encampment was facilitated by the Iloilo Council of GSP, headed by Ms. Luz Losbaftez, the council executive.
The official delegates of the school to the encampment were Carol Laguna, 3-A; Shelia Roinallosa, 3-1; Mclina Modclo, 2-A; Leah Tornion, 2-A-, Francis Gerlyn Tronco, 1-A; and Sally Fe Galindo, I -A.
The school's delegates were chaperoned by Mrs. Marilou B. Jamanulla and Mrs. Evelina R. Artieda, head of Physical Education, Health and Music (PERM) department of the school. The latter was designated Sub-Camp E director.
After the five-day encampment, the school's contingent was a recipient of four awards. It was adjudged as the Most Disciplined, Cooperative, and Punctual; Best
Three governmental agencies arc jointly facilitating the evaluation of the Philippine participation in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) by conducting an achievement test in Mathematics and Science among first year high school students in selected schools nationwide.
Tasked by the Philippine government with evaluating Philippine participation in TIMSS are the Department of Science and Technology (Dos,r), the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS, and the Universit)• of the Philippines - Institute of Science and Mathematics Education.
The Third International Mathematics and Science Study is an educational research sponsored by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). TIMSS is investigating students' achievements in Mathematics and Science in over 50 educational systems around the world. It is designed to interpret differences in national educational systems in order to help improve the teaching and learning of
in Cook-Out.. Best in Sanitation., and Most Number of Gadgets.
The awards of the school's contingent were capped by the selection of Carol Laguna as Outstanding Camper. Her selection as such qualifies her to be a member of the Iloilo contingent that will participate in GSP National Encampment to be held in Camp Marina, Cebu City on April 2-7.
It is to be noted that every year Cabatuan National Comprehensive High school send.,, delegatc5 to the Provincial encampment of GSP, held in the usual venue, Camp Pasica in Dingle, Iloilo. During its participation, the school's contingent always conics home with awards.
"We are indeed proud of our Girl Scouts in school for their commendable performance. 1 congratulate all of them, as well as their teacher-scooters. for giving honors to CNCHS," Miss Lilia G. Fancubela, the school administrator, said.
Mathematics and Science worldwide.
As part of the evaluation, an achievement test in Mathematics and Science was conducted on first year students of the school. Chosen as subjects of the test were 30 first year students belonging to section seven. The test which lasted for three hours was given on March 10. It was administered by Mrs. Lygia V. Hobilla, a professor of West Visayas State University in Iloilo City.
Aside from the achievement test, questionnaires were given to the school administrator, one Mathematics teacher, and one Science Teacher to be answered.
Among other things, (lie questionnaire includes items relevant to the Mathematics and Science facilities of the school, professional competencies of the subject teachers, attitudes of students towards mathematics and science, and general facilities of the school.
Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School was chosen as part of the evaluation because the school is one of the two secondary schools in the province, that implements a Special Science - Math program.
Construction of New
Science lab underway
The school will soon acquire an additional Science laboratory with the on-going construction of the building behind the Library-Science building.
Funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in the amount of P1.3 million, the building is constructed by Soledad Recto Construction. a private con struction firm based in Davao City. The construction firm was awarded the right to construct the building after winning the bidding held in Manila,
Construction work on the building started in December 1994 and is expected to be finished in April 1995. When finished, the building vJ11 house two laboratory y rooms. equivalent to four standard classrooms.
Only two schools in the province of Iloilo are recipients of the building: Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School and Iloilo National High School. The two schools are pursuing a Special Science-Math Program, authorized and supervised by DOST.
After the completion of the building, DOST will appropriate another amount for the purchase of Science equipment.
"Definitely the construction of the new science laboratory building will be a big boost to the Special Science program of the school. It will be a concrete step towards the realisation of our national vision for Philippines 2000,11 school administrator Miss Lilia G. Fancubcla said.
Watcr system installed
in municipal hall municipal ball
Mayor Eliseo C. Tobias informed The Glow that a water supply system was recently installed in the municipal building.
The water project of the municipal government had an appropriation of P300,000.00 from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA fund of the town. The project was implemented through administration. It was supervised by Engr. Norma Uniadhay, the municipal planning and development officer of the town.
