CNCHS Golden Harvest SY 1997 - 1998 It is inspiring and gratifying to note that this school year, as in the past years, the Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School reaped numerous honors - mostly academic in nature - in various contests of provincial, regional, and national magnitude. The following honors, awards, and commendations constitute the school's Golden Harvest for the school year 1997­ - 1998. I - DOST-SEI Scholars CNCHS made an impressive record of academic excellence when fifteen (15) of its graduating students passed the scholarship exam given by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Science Education Institute (SEI) Of the number of passers, five (5) qualified for a Bachelor's degree: Arniel Malaga, Stephen Miravite, Richard Sumagpao, Sally Fe Galindo, and Helernest Flores. Ten (10) qualified for a technical course: Jonah Jane Esmaya, Jennie Cabaltierra, Ritchel Mae Patrimonio, Francis Gerlyn Tronco, Joyce Daza, Rosario, Paguntalan, Leomie Sobreguil, Allan Janapon, Braddy Racho, and Eric Redome. II - UPCAT Passers • Nine (9) graduating students of the school hurdled the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT). They are Arniel Malaga, Jorge Aborde, Cherry Marie Rute, Fritz Llanora, Irene Bettina Pueyo, Ritchel Mae Patrimonio, Jorgen Vila, Helernest Flores, and Michael Richard Nava. • III - Regional Statistical Quiz The team of CNCHS composed of Jorge Aborde, Arniel Malaga, and Lonerie Apelo ranked third. • • • extemporaneous speech, essay writing, and vocal solo contests, respectively. Joanna Sue Montano was second runner up in the Search for Miss YMCA. V - GSP Provincial Encampment During the provincial encampment of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines, the contingent of the school was adjudged Third Most Outstanding Contingent. It became a recipient of two (2) special awards: Best in Uniform and Most Number of Trees Planted. The choral group of the contingent emerged the best in interpretative singing contest. VI - Regional FFP/FAHP Work Conference Rey Orrica 1st Place Self-Invented One-Dish Meal 2nd Place Bangus Deboning Jorge Aborde 2nd Place Public Speaking Ryan Tizon 3rd Place One-Piece Instrumental Solo VII - Provincial FFP/FAHP Work Conference Jorge Aborde 1st Place Public Speaking Rey Orrica 1st Place Self-Invented One-Dish Meal 3rd Place Self-Invented Snack Ryan Tizon 1 st Place One-Piece Instrumental Solo Brenda Mandarin 2nd Place Vocal Solo Cherry Marie Rute 3rd Place Battle of the Brains (FAHP) Arniel Malaga 3rd Place Battle of the Brains (FAHP) Fritz Llanora 3rd Place Vocal Solo Allan Janapon 3rd Place Poster Making Remy Joy Adane 3rd Place Sewing Blouse VIII - 3rd Congressional District Athletic Meet The teams of the school in taekwondo (boys and girls), girls gymnastics, girls volleyball, and sepak takraw clinched the gold medals. The girls basketball team copped the silver medal. The girls basketball, baseball, soccer football, boys volleyball, and boys lawn tennis were awarded bronze medals. IX - 3rd Congressional District Cultural Contests Three (3) CNCHS students brought home the bacon. Noemi Caballero bested other contestants in English declamation contest. This was duplicated by Ramir Sangrador when he won the gold medal in Filipino declamation contest. Lonerie Apelo ranked second in extemporaneous speaking contest X - Iloilo Integrated Athletic Meet Three (3) taekwondo players of the school captured the gold medal: Cherry Sadava, Rommel Roxas, and Jeffrey Maglocot. Three (3) other gold medalists were Wilson Redondo in boxing, Dina Mae Supeda and Darlene Choresca in gymnastics. The girls basketball and sepak takraw teams placed second. XI - Iloilo Integrated Meet Cultural Contests Noemi Caballero ranked second in English declamation contest while Ramir Sangrador placed third in Filipino declamation contest. XII - West Visayas Athletic Meet Dina Mae Supeda again demonstrated her excellence in gymnastics when she won the gold medal. Cherry Sadava ranked second in girls taekwondo. Akira Obed Caballero was a member of Iloilo's sepak takraw team that placed second. XIII - Regional Math Teacher-Trainor Mr. Julio Villalon, a Math teacher of the school, was named by DECS Regional Office as a regional trainor of Math teachers during the 1997 Summer Training of Math III and IV Teachers in Region VI. The training was undertaken by Science and Math Education Manpower Development Project of DECS and DOST, financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). XIV - Venue of Two Regional Conferences The school, despite its limited resources, had been chosen as the venue of two (2) regional conferences in only one school year. The first one was the Regional Elementary and Secondary Schools Press Conference and the other was the Regional FFP/ FAHP/FFPCC Regional Work Conference. IV - Visayas Students Regional Conference The delegation of the school received two awards: Most Active Delegation and Biggest Delegation. Zosimo Miravite Jr. was elected vice chairman of the conference for the high school level. Jorge Aborde and Cherry Marie Rute became staffers of the conference newsletter.
