Official Publication of CNCHS - Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School Cabatuan, Iloilo, Panay Island, Philippines Class '83 grad tops exam Centennial King and Queen Tobias, Claveria to reign for a hundred years An alumnus of the school is giving a name to his Alma Matey in the field of orthopedics. Dr. Mylo N. Soriaso of class '83 placed third in the whole Country when he took the Orthopedic Diplomats examination given on October 4, 10, 1 I, 12, 19 and 22, 1998. The examination covered three aspects: written, oral and practical. Before a doctor of medicine qualifies for Diplomats, he has to undergo residency training for four years. The resident trainee has to pass the yearly examination. Dr. Soriaso placed first in the whole country when he was in the second year of his residency training. Fie placed fourth during his third year of the training. Patricia Carmela AsencioMadayag, employee of Far East Bank and Trust Company, Commonwealth Avenue Quezon City Branch was crowned Miss Cabatuan '98 during a coronation program held on Sept. 10 at the community stage starting at 8:30 p.m. The program highlighted the observance of the town fiesta in honor of San Nicolas de Tolentino, the town's patron saint. The 21 year old queen is the eldest of the five children of Patrick Guerero-Madayag and the former Carmen Grio Asencio. Her father is the chief superintendent (Gen) in the Phil. Nat'l Police. Mrs. Corazon Grio, grand- During his last year of residency training, he conducted a research which was adjudged third place in the whole country. His research focused on "Initial Results of Interlocking Intra-Medullary Nailing of the Fcnuer Using a Template KNail." The project cater to poor patients who could not afford the standard interlocking nail costing P18,000.00. The improvised implant of Dr. Soriaso costs only P3,000.00. Dr. Mylo N. Soriaso is the younger of the two children and only son of the late Marcelo Soriaso and the former iluminada Noquez. She was proclaimed officially by Hon. Derry Sonia, vice governor of the province. The Royal Court of Miss Cabatuan '98 was composed of Lucilyn A. Custodio and Noemi G. Pueyo. Princess Lucilyn is a daughter of Renato Custodio and the former Amalia Aleman. She is a 4th year student of Cabatuan National Comprehensive High school. Princess Noemi is a daughter of Hermogenes Pueyo and the former Nenita Garrido. She is also a 4th year student of this school. Hon. Eliseo C. Tobias municipal mayor and Engr. Rosalia Claveria, municipal statistician and deputized zoning administrator were crowned Centennial King and Queen respectively during the Philippine Centennial Independence Anniversary Celebration on June 2 at the Covered Gym. Tobias and Claveria will reign for 100 years and will only turn over their crowns in 2098, if they live that long. By then the mayor will be 164 and the Engineer will be 130 years old. Fortner mayor and GSIS manager, Enrique Binayas proclaimed the Centennial King and Queen. They were crowned by former vice mayor Caridad Asencio and Hon. Enrique Binayas. CNCHSians top Math Olympiad Thirteen students of the school made it to the top ten places in Math Olympiad sponsored by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports. The individual Math contests held in Iloilo National High School, Iloilo City was participated in by high school students in the entire province. In the fourth year level, Juvy Hebra ranked fifth, Karen Joyce Mercurio placed seventh and Arlene Tan got the eighth place. Among the third year contestants, three made it to the top. They were Asuncion Celendro who ranked sixth, Marites Rute and Karen Grace Solacito, ninth place. Three students from the second year also made it to the top ten.Lani Libutaque ranked third, Cliff Jim Gallego, fourth and Albert Janapon, eighth place. The freshmen has the most number of topnotchers. Kevin Montoya got the fourth place, Marian Lujan and Frederick Caballero, sixth place and Lorvilyn Amorose rank eighth. The coaches were Mr. Julio Villalon, Miss Norma Tuares, Mrs Pet Gil and Miss Estefania , anipiano. Couple adds donation CNCHS became a recipient of a philantrophic act of a couple who had made a past donation. Mr. and Mrs. Rolando Ropero (nee Teresa Aleman) recently donated P20,000.00 for the construction of an arc above the main gate of the school. The donation was turned over to Mr. Rey B. Veneer, the school administrator. It should be recalled that Mr. and Mrs, Ropero donated P20,000.00 last school year. The amount was used for the construction of three steel billboards put up in three strategic places in the campus. Other activities during the Centennial Independence Anniversary Celebration in the town include Diana at 5:00 a.m., ringing of church bells at 7:00 a.m. and a short program immediately after the mass. The morning's activity was capped by a tree planting headed by the municipal mayor. A parade of the different local agency personnel opened the afternoon activity. Life histories of local heroes like Martin Delgado, Graciano The school scored a number of awards during the Regional Schools Press Conference in Antique National High School, San Jose, Antique on Oct. 21-23. Jojie Sua, managing editor of Ang Sinag won 3rd place in Editorial Cartooning, Filipino; Lonerie Apelo, editor-in-chief, Ang Sinag, 4th place Editorial Writing, Filipino; Noemi Caballero, editor-in-chief, The Glow, 6th place, Editorial Writing, English; Arlene Tan, associate editor, Ang Sinag, 7th place, Copyreading and Headline Writing, Filipino; and Karen Joyce Mercurio, associate editor, The Glow, 9th place Lopez Jaena, Teresa Magbanua, Francisca Cabanas, Tomas Confesor and Flavio ZaragozaCano were presented in a form of a song, a poem or a drama during the program immediately after the parade. The reenactment of the First Raising of the Philippine Flag in Kawit, Cavite highlighted the afternoon activity. The staffers' victory gives them the right to participate in the 1999 National Schools Press Conference to be held sometime in February in Isabela. Other delegates to the two-day press conference were Juvy Hebra, Ben John Tormon, Maribel Lacerna, Goldie Yen Boteja, Marivic Casianan and Rosiefe Oresco. The student delegates were coached and accompanied by Miss Ninfa Dio of The Glow and Miss Tiongson of Ang Sinag. Me -Itor e 0 Soho larsh' grant 9P Julio Villalon, mathematics teachers of the school is now enjoying a three semester "Monbosho" scholarship in Japan. He left the Philippines on October 1,1998 and he is expected to finish the grant by April of 2000. Villalon was a high school valedictorian at Tiring National High School and he finished his college at West Visayan State University. He has been a coach to several winning students of the school in different Mathematics related contests.
