EDITORIAL Vote for the Best Mudslinging, vote buying, and even killings- that's politics in the Philippines. It is one of the reasons why foreign investors are hesitant in investing in our country. Can our future president solve these problems? There are six persons vying for the highest position in the country- the current economist president, an evangelist, a famous actor, a senator, an ex-DepEd secretary, and self-proclaimed billionaire. Who among them is good enough to run our country? First on the list Is President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the only economist president In the history of the Philipppines. It is during her term that the peso dropped down to Its lowest value, P56 against $1. She said before that she will not run for the presidency again but look at what she is doing now, she runs for the same position. Will you go for someone who has no word of honor? Jesus is Lord (JIL) leader Bro. Eddie Villanueva decided to run because he said it is God's will. If he becomes the president of our country then it will be unavoidable for the church not to meddle In the affairs of the state since he is an evangelist. Besides, Bro. Eddie has no experience in running a country. Next is Fernando Poe Jr., the famous King of the Philippine movies. A person who is a high school dropout, has a questionable citizenship, fathers an illegitimate child, and has no experience whatsoever in running a country. They say he is honest and sincere but those qualities are not enough in governing a nation. Sen. Ping Lacson's term as PNP Chief minimized the crime rate in the country. During his time many drug lords were imprisoned and he imposed strict discipline to his subordinates. But will you vote for someone who is accused of the KuratongBaleleng rob-out case? In his term as secretary of the Department of Education, Raul Roco implemented changes in the educational system. He was accused of corruption in the education department and It was his administration that provided a lot of headaches to our poor teachers. Will Roco be a good president to us? Last on the list Is the "billionaire" Eddie Gil, a person who most of us don't know, until recently. He was disqualified in the 1998 election when he tried to run in the senate because he did not have enough campaign funds. Now he reappears and claims that he is a billionaire. Will you vote for a "billionaire" who can't even pay his hotel bills? The election is still two months away. There's still time for us to think who among the six presidentiables is the right one for our country. But whoever you may vote, be sure that that person Is honest, experienced, responsible, decisive, has integrity and a word of honor. A wrong choice of president may spell doom to our country. Let us always remember: the future of our country lies in your votes! '04: Election 't),40 Whom to vote.? by: Ma. Anndrea Hernandez May 2004 election is fast approaching. Everywhere around you, there are posters and ads that tell and advertise about candidates running for the position of president, senator, congressman, down to local position as mayor. Radio and television media also air campaign advertisements about the candidates. Each one of them is saying that they are the answer to the nation's crises. Are they sincere and credible in what they say? Or are they simply bluffing just to gain our votes? IS popularity enough to be elected? In line with the issue, the staffers of the Glow were called to a meeting last February 4, 2004. During the discussion, our adviser challenged us with this question: "If you were given a chance to vote, whom of the presidentiable would you choose? Why?
