Al Badiangan hosts 3CDSSA Meet '05 Intramural Meet '05 Seniors bag championship crown An astounding over-all 45-point lead over the Juniors made the Seniors the undisputed champion in this year's Intramural Meet! The Municipality of Badiangan hosted the Third Congressional District Schools Sports Association (CDSSA) Meet held on November 17-20,2005. Nine towns comprising the Third Congressional District of Iloilo participated in a four-day athletic competitions namely Bingawan, Calinog, Lambunao, Janivay, Badiangan, Mina, Pototan, Cabatuan, and Maasin. The athletic competitions were divided into two divisions- elementary and secondary. Some games had two categories – boys and girls. For the secondary level, 27 sports events had been competed. These were archery, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, taekwondo, The Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School hosted the Municipal Meet (Secondary Level) on October 22, 2005. The athletic competition is conducted every year in order to scout athletic potentials and develop athletic skills among student who will later represent the municipality to compete in the higher meets. Six secondary schools in the town of Cabatuan participated in the inter-school conapetilion-varnelK and volleyball. The winners in the Congressional Meet were automatically qualified to participate in the Iloilo Integrated Meet which will be held in December. Every year, the Department of Education mandates the holding of athletic meets starting in the school level. Known as the Palarong Pampaaralan, the activity serves as laboratory of acquired knowledges and skills of students in physical education classes. After the school level competitions, the Meet proceeds to the district or municipal level which will be followed by the congressional level. The Sophomores topped the soccer football, lawn tennis (girls), and dance sports (Latin). The neophyte Freshmen fought back against their opponents by winning gold medals in chess (girls) and lawn tennis (boys). Declared as the highest individual pointer of the Meet in the boys division was Joel Samis of the Juniors who earned a total of 44 points. His female counterpart was Maryland Galindo of the Sophomores with 47 points. The two-day athletic competitions started with a parade around the major streets of the poblacion. A program was held after the parade at the school stage. Mrs. Evelina R. Artieda, head of the Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) department of the school that sponsored the athletic meet welcomed all the guests and the participants to the occasion. Invited to be the principal speaker was town Mayor Ramon C. Yee. In his speech, Mayor Yee emphasized the need to acquire desirable values from athletic meets. He also encouraged athletes and non-athletes to internalize and practice the values of sportsmanship, cooperation, and perseverance. He expressed the support of the Municipal Government to the sports program of the school.
