Cabatuan, Iloilo (Sep 3) - September 3, 2010 marks the 111th anniversary of the 1st issue of one of the 1st newspapers in Cabatuan - 'La Federacion'.

First published in September 3, 1899, La Federacion was a nationally recognized newspaper of the Philippine revolution and is officially listed in history textbooks among its contemporaries including La Independencia by Gen. Antonio Luna and La Republika Filipina by Pedro Paterno.

Two copies of La Federacion are now available at Cabatuan.com in their entirety. One is the second issue, published in Sept. 10, 1899, and the other is the third issue published in Sept. 17, 1899.

These items are officially considered rare by national standards, and yet more so by local standards as Cabatuan had suffered two significant fires over the past century, one during the Philippine-American War and the second during World War II.

Future plans for the two copies would be to transcribe them into text/web format, and then to translate them from Spanish to English or to Kinaray-a.

La Federacion was a weekly newspaper, published every Sunday until Cabatuan (the seat of the revolutionary government, or the insurgent's capital) was captured by American Forces led by General Robert P. Hughes in November 1899.
