The Officers of the 26th Infantry U.S.V. with Pres. Mckinley
The 26th Infantry USV captured Cabatuan on Nov. 23, 1899.
The unit arrived in the Department of the Pacific on Oct. 24, 1899. It was immediately sent to Iloilo on Oct. 27, 1899. On Nov. 1, 1899, Hughes cabled Otis that he is ready commence operations against the insurgents, which did start on Nov. 9, 1899. After the skirmishes, on November 28, 1899, Company G of the 26th Infantry USV (replaced later by Company H 26th Infantry USV), set up a garrison in Cabatuan along with Company H of the 18th U.S. Infantry.

General Robert P. Hughes and General Otis
General Hughes' column, composed of the 26th Infantry USV, captured Cabatuan on Nov. 23, 1899. Hughes thereafter sent a cable to Gen. Otis that Cabatuan, the insurgent capital, or the seat of government, was captured. General Hughes was the commanding officer of the Visayan Military District while General Otis was commanding the Department of the Pacific, based in Manila.
